Marina Gibson Promotes Health Benefits of Fishing for International Stress Awareness Week

Record-breaking angler and social media influencer Marina Gibson will be hosting an intimate fly fishing event to highlight the mental health benefits of fishing during International Stress Awareness Week (4th-8th November 2019).

The event will be held on Tuesday 5th November at the stunning Syon Park Fishery. Marina aims to highlight the importance of getting outdoors and connecting with nature in combatting stress. for our individual mental health and wellbeing. Marina is encouraging more women into the sport and is a keen ambassador for mental health and wellbeing.

To mark International Stress Awareness Week, Marina will be teaching a group of mixed-abilities how to fly fish with opportunities for one on one Q&As at one of the UK’s most picturesque venues.

Marina Gibson, said: ‘We all live such busy lives but it’s so important for people to take a break from society and get outdoors. Fly fishing allows you to do this in some of the most tranquil, beautiful parts of the country. That’s why I’d like to empower more women to take up fishing, help them find serenity in the countryside and escape the hustle-and-bustle that we all experience each day.’

The event is predominantly for outdoor sports and mental health influencers and press and will kick-off at 10am with refreshments provided. Participants will learn about the craft of fly fishing and have the opportunity to interview Marina on this subject.

Marina Gibson

Marina Gibson is a truly passionate angler who was lucky enough to spend much of her childhood chasing salmon, trout and sea trout. Following in the footsteps of her talented mother Joanna Gibson, herself a devoted fly fisher, Marina has dedicated a significant part of her life to the pursuit of every type of fish at every available opportunity wherever in the world that may be.

A certified ‘Fly Fishers International’ (CI) Instructor and 1st4sport Level 2 coach, Marina is also a freelance writer who hosts trips worldwide and guides in the UK. She competed in her first World Championships in 2018 in Millom. She made the finals for both the Women’s Spey events, ending up in 4th place for both and currently holds the UK record for Ladies 15′.1″ Spey distance with a total of 79.5m.

Syon Park Fishery

Syon Park Fishery hidden within the beautiful 200 acre parkland grounds of Syon House, a seat of the Duke of Northumberland, only 8 miles from central London. This is a unique opportunity to sample superb trout fly fishing on a small stillwater only 40 minutes from Clapham Junction by Overground.

The lake and grounds were originally constructed by Capability Brown in the 1760s, the six acre lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout from Albury (and brown trout in season) of an average weight of 2lb 8oz up to in excess of 10lb. Syon is also regularly stocked with Blues, Tigers, Spartics, and will soon be stocked with Golden Trout.

Syon offers easily accessible trout fishing for the novice and more experienced angler alike in a beautiful environment on the outskirts of London. Just across the River Thames from Kew Gardens, Syon Park is only eight miles west along the A4 from Marble Arch. The water enjoys prolific hatches of olives, alders, sedge, buzzers and damsel flies.
